Our nonprofit is committed to ensuring that every young person in our community has access to the basic hygiene essentials they need to feel clean, confident, and prepared for school. We provide hygiene products at no cost to youth in need, with the goal of removing barriers that can affect a student's self-esteem, social well-being, and ability to focus on learning.
For younger children, we distribute general hygiene kits containing essential oral care items, including a toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss, as well as tissues. Prior to the start of the school year, these hygiene kits were placed in backpacks and distributed to local children, helping them begin the school year with essential personal-care supplies.
For middle and high school students, we provide age-appropriate hygiene supplies that address their changing needs. These kits include oral care products and deodorant. Female students may also receive period kits containing menstrual pads, tampons, and feminine wipes. By making these products readily available, we hope to reduce the embarrassment, stress, and missed instructional time that can result when students do not have access to basic hygiene and menstrual-care products.
We supply a hygiene closet at Alisal High School called Project Reach. The closet provides students with free access to essential items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and other oral care products, body wash, bar soap, shampoo and conditioner, hair-care products, feminine hygiene products, lotion, gently used and new clothing, snacks, backpacks and bottled water. Any student experiencing a need can access these items discreetly on campus.
We also maintain a Hygiene and Snack Station at Valley Health Associates, which serves at-risk youth in our community. This station is stocked with oral care products, body wash, lotion, body wipes, snacks, and period kits. Our partnership allows us to reach young people who may be experiencing financial hardship or other circumstances that make access to basic necessities difficult.
The need for these resources continues to grow. We have recently received requests to establish two additional hygiene stations at Mount Toro and El Puente Community School. While we are eager to expand our program to serve students at these locations, our current budget does not allow us to purchase the supplies necessary to establish and continually restock both stations.
Donations, Sponsorships and Grant funding would allow us to maintain and restock the hygiene closet at Alisal High School and the Hygiene and Snack Station at Valley Health Associates, establish and stock new hygiene stations at Mount Toro and El Puente Community School, assemble additional hygiene kits for youth throughout our community, and provide a hygiene kit to each child receiving pajamas through our upcoming December 19 pajama giveaway.
Every child deserves the opportunity to walk into school feeling clean, confident, and ready to learn. By providing basic essentials today, we can help young people build confidence and hope for tomorrow.
